Are you afraid of becoming a burden to your family if you were to lose your vision?

You're not alone!

According to the research, losing one's sight is more frightening than going deaf, having a heart attack, or losing a limb.

Some of our customers have already lost vision in one eye and are hanging on with hope and optimism that they retain vision in the other eye.

We're a physician led company, we see the worry in our own patients, so we know that you're worried too. That's why we consider it an obligation to keep you informed regarding the latest research and news concerning macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome.

Although today's news includes two announcements regarding a new product and money saving coupon from us, we also want to keep you informed about other important eye news.

Avastin - Will you be able to get it if you need it?

Genentech, the manufacturer of the successful injectable medication for wet macular degeneration, Lucentis, also makes the cancer drug, Avastin. Like Lucentis, Avastin causes the abnormal blood vessels in wet macular degeneration to shrink. Only Lucentis is FDA approved for ocular injections. But Avastin appears to work just as well, and cost only $40 per dose rather than $2000 per dose.

The problem is that Genentech announced last month that because Avastin is not FDA approved, that they will be making it more difficult for eye surgeons to obtain it for their patients.

The FDA has responded, stating that they never asked Genentech to remove Avastin from eye surgeons, and that although they consider its use to be "off label," they have no plans to restrict its use.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is working hard to allow eye surgeons to continue to get Avastin. Genentech's clearly wants the doctors to buy their $2000 drug rather than the less expensive counterpart.

Negotiations are continuing. We'll keep you up to date as new news develops.

The National Eye Institute has announced their newest Macular Degeneration Formula Study. The study is ongoing, and the final results won't be known until 2012.

VisiVite is the first and only vitamin manufacturer to offer this unique supplement based upon various aspects of the ongoing Age Related Eye Disease Study 2, and we are optimistic that the results will show not only prevention of disease progression but also improvement of vision.
