AREDS Proves Benefit of Lutein and Zeaxanthin

So now you know.  For sure. Positively and without a doubt!

Lutein and Zeaxanthin are critical for macular health.

There have been many studies over the past six years since the National Eye Institute’s Age Related Eye Disease Study proved the benefit of nutritional supplementation for the treatment of macular degeneration. But naysayer's were suspicious of anything that failed to come from the original study.

The news about Lutein and Zeaxanthin comes from the horse’s mouth this time – The National Eye Institute’s Age Related Eye Disease Study!

Yep!

In the September 2007 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology, The AREDS Group published Study #22.

They studied 4,519 people with macular degeneration. And here is what they found in patients taking Lutein and Zeaxanthin.

  1. Dramatically lower incidence of wet macular degeneration

  2. Reduced size and number of drusen, the white spots on the retina that show progression of dry macular degeneration

  3. Reduced chances of developing geographic atrophy, the most severe form of dry macular degeneration.

And in case you need it spelled out for you in one sentence, here was the official conclusion:

HIGHER DIETARY INTAKE OF LUTEIN/ZEAXANTHIN WAS INDEPENDENTLY ASSOCIATED WITH DECREASED LIKELIHOOD OF HAVING NEOVASCULAR AMD, GEOGRAPHIC ATROPHY, AND LARGE OR EXTENSIVE INTERMEDIATE DRUSEN.

Based upon this latest study, we strongly recommend that you use one of the premium VisiVite formulas shown at the bottom of this page that contain BOTH Lutein and Zeaxanthin.
